The Threadfin Rainbow (Iriatherina werneri) is a delicate, captivating freshwater fish that adds elegance to any aquarium. Originating from slow-moving rivers and streams in New Guinea and Northern Australia, the Threadfin Rainbow boasts elongated, thread-like fins that flow beautifully as it swims. Males display striking colors, ranging from light silver to a pale gold body, with vibrant orange, red, and black highlights on their extended fins. Females are smaller and less colorful but still possess the graceful form. These fish typically grow to an average size of 1.5 to 2 inches, requiring a minimum tank size of 15 gallons.
 
Threadfin Rainbowfish have a peaceful temperament, making them ideal for a community tank with similarly gentle tankmates. However, because they are shy and easily stressed, they are best kept in groups of six or more, where they feel more secure and display their best colors. They are moderately easy to care for but require pristine water quality and a peaceful environment to thrive.
These fish are omnivores and prefer a diet of small, high-quality foods such as micro-pellets, crushed flakes, and live or frozen options like daphnia and baby brine shrimp.
