The Tinwini Gold Ring Danio (Brachydanio tinwini) is a small, fast-moving freshwater fish admired for its iridescent gold body covered in intricate black spots, resembling tiny gold rings. Native to the clear, slow-moving streams of Myanmar (Burma), this species is a peaceful and hardy schooling fish, making it a perfect choice for community aquariums and planted tanks.

A Name That Reflects Its Distinctive Pattern

The "Gold Ring" name comes from the golden-yellow hue and dark, spotted pattern along its body, which resembles tiny rings. These markings create a mesmerizing effect when the fish swim in synchronized schools, adding movement and vibrancy to any aquarium.

Growth and Tank Requirements

Tinwini Danios are small fish, reaching only about 1 inch in length when fully grown. They thrive best in groups of 6 or more, as they are social and display their best colors and behaviors when kept in a school. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended, but a 20+ gallon tank allows for a larger, more active group. Their habitat should include plenty of plants, open swimming space, and a gentle current, mimicking their natural environment.

Care and Water Parameters

These danios prefer temperatures between 72-78°F, with a pH range of 6.5-7.5 and soft to moderately hard water. A gentle but efficient filtration system helps keep the water clean, and regular water changes are necessary to maintain water quality. Due to their small size, a tight-fitting lid is recommended, as they are known to be energetic jumpers.

Diet and Feeding

Tinwini Gold Ring Danios are omnivores and should be fed a varied diet to maintain their health and coloration. They readily accept high-quality micro pellets, flakes, and frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and micro worms. Offering small, frequent feedings helps keep them active and vibrant.

Unique Behaviors

These danios are fast swimmers and highly active, often seen darting around the tank in synchronized movements. They have a playful nature but are also peaceful, making them excellent tank mates for other small, non-aggressive fish. Their schooling behavior and shimmering appearance make them a fantastic choice for aquarists looking to add dynamic movement to their aquarium.
